It is named for David J. Hefner, deceased son of local entrepreneur and Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) donor, William J. Hefner and his wife, Bonnie L. Hefner. The complex consists of 14 fields highlighted by a 2,000-seat stadium.
